Triple Lingling-o Double Chain Necklace
This necklace is made with three hand-cast brass lingling-o pendants (ethically sourced from Ifugao Nation) strung up on a 16" gold tone stainless steel oval link chain, with a secondary chain of tiny faceted crystal chain. The stainless steel chain does not tarnish! The pendants are hand-cast solid recycled brass 5/8" in diameter. These necklaces are designed by VINTA creative director, Caroline Mangosing, and lovingly hand assembled in Toronto by local Filipina artist Blessyl Buan.
The earliest surviving examples of lingling-o, dating back to around 500 BC, were found in Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The name lingling-o comes from the Ifugao name for these ornaments.
The lingling-o at present has gained popularity as a symbol of Philippine ancestry and pride, more importantly, fertility and feminine power.
