Evil Eye Lingling-o Choker
The earliest known belief in the power of the evil eye dates back to ancient Greek and Roman times.
This Evil Eye Lingling-o Choker features a hand-cast, solid recycled brass 5/8" lingling-o pendant (ethically sourced from Ifugao Nation) on a chain of glass evil eye charms. These chokers are designed by VINTA creative director, Caroline Mangosing, and lovingly hand assembled in Toronto by local Filipina artist Blessyl Buan. The evil eye symbol dates back about 5,000 years, as early as the Upper Paleolithic Age.
The earliest surviving examples of lingling-o, dating back to around 500 BC, were found in Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The name lingling-o comes from the Ifugao name for these ornaments.
The lingling-o at present has gained popularity as a symbol of Philippine ancestry and pride, more importantly, fertility and feminine power.
