Binakol Weave
The Binakol signature is a dizzying pattern, similar to the optical art prevalent in the 1960s. Traditionally, the Ilokanos and the Itneg communities from Northern Luzon made blankets in this design, utilizing mathematical precision with each weave without a manual or guide. The design is meant to ward off evil by confusing and distracting spirits away from sleeping souls, offering protection.
Kinulibangbang Weave (butterfly)
The kulibangbang is designed using a combination of repeated shapes in a recurring arrangement. Kinulibangbang is a representation of nature spirits.
Kinattibanglan Weave (fernwood)
This represents the aammod dih do’ne, the ancestors and their time. It is based on the patterns found on the trunk of the giant fern, one of the oldest living things in the plant kingdom. It is mainly used in skirts and blankets.
Tiniktiku Weave (lightning bolt)
This symbol represents the Munkontad who are messenger deities between the superior gods and the Ifugao. Some of the Munkontads include Buh-wit (cobra), Bagillat (lightning), and Atibungallon (rainbow). They are known to travel with great speed to all corners of the Ifugao universe.
