Bayanihan Toile Short Set
Ready-to-Wear
We love a matching short set!
This one has a story, as many of our designs do, this Bayanihan toile is an exclusive VINTA print. Inspired by French toile prints, which were inspired by blue and white Chinese porcelain designs, we initially wanted to do an idyllic, vintage inspired, rural Filipino scene. But this design was being developed by our creative director, and our then in-house artist, Alaga at Sining, during the covid lock downs of 2020. Because of the lockdowns, so many people all over the Philippines were starving because many poor urban folx live day to day. It inspired the broader communities all over the Philippines to start community pantries on the roadsides. Kapwa pantries were created all over the urban and suburban sidewalks where people could drop off food, and others could pick up food to have a meal for themselves and their families. It was such an inspiring movement that Alaga proposed incorporating communal eating into the toile design. And so that's what he created, and we decided to call it Bayanihan. Derived from the word bayan meaning town, nation, or community in general, bayanihan literally means, "being a bayan," and is thus used to refer to a spirit of communal unity and cooperation. It's a beautiful thing.
