Ready-to-Wear
It's our latest Barong design! This one has a sick silhouette that broadens your shoulders and tapers at the waist, but still a loose, easy fit. It's cropped right below the waistband of your pants/shorts, and the hand-dyed wisteria coloured jusi sleeves and embroidered front panels are framed beautifully with off white Italian cotton satin at the centre front and along the hem, and the back.
This sick new Barong features AlagadNgSining’s stunning new design series called Hiwaga ng Hinabing Panaginip (Mystery, Magic, or Wonder of Woven Dreams).
An ode to the ecology, and an appreciation to the process of the dream-inspired and spirit-infused T’nalak weavings of the T’boli tribe, this series (of which this is the first) serves reverence and honour through contemporary design, encapsulating the serenity, spirituality, and the enchantment of wonders that can be found at Lake Sebu in Alah Valley in South Cotabato.
Hiwaga ng Hinabing Panaginip I: Lake Sebu is a 180-feet deep natural lake that provides for the community of indigenous people that live around it. It is considered as one of the country’s important watersheds, protected by the government, supplying irrigation to the farmlands of the province and nearby Sultan Kudarat. It is the ancestral domain of the T’boli, Tiruray, Manobo, and Ubo groups of people that thrive mainly by Tilapia aquaculture. This lake is abundant with the introduced fish Tilapia, it is one of the staple delicacies here that is cooked in many different ways. Featuring the awakening of the magenta colored Lotus flowers that opens only during sunrise along the tranquil waters, together with some its active pollinators, the white herons and ducks.
Each Barong is made of Italian cotton satin (100%) panels, and hand-dyed jusi (silk-poly blend) panels, with coconut wood buttons, and is handcrafted by the VINTA Gallery team in our atelier in the Philippines. Hand-manipulated machine embroidery is also done in our atelier.
Care Instructions
- Spot or fully hand wash with mild soap, do not wring. Dry flat not in direct sun. Dry clean only when absolutely necessary, to avoid drying out the silk (this causes the fabric to break and tear). Steaming will cause crinkles on the silk, follow with iron on low-medium heat (silk setting), increase to medium setting only for the cotton areas.
