The Barong, also known as Barong Tagalog, is a traditional, formal men's shirt from the Philippines. VINTA Barongs are a modern take on a beautiful tradition. The VINTA Relaxed Classic Barong is made with cotton-silk blend fabric that is soft, drapey, and features the traditional half-open cut, with a new modern silhouette, cut closer to the body. The slim silhouette was achieved by adding an invisible zipper at the side seam to assist with easy pull-over.
This barong has hand-manipulated embroidery featuring AlagadNgSining’s Filipino Tropico IV design.
The Philippines is both a hotspot and a mega-diversity area, making it a priority for conservation. The country’s forests are habitat for more than 6,000 plant species and numerous bird and animal species, including the critically endangered ones. Exceptionally lush and full of life, Filipino Tropico is a series of embroidery designs conceptualized and illustrated by Alagadngsining, VINTA's in-house surface designer and artist. Material and Care Instructions:
- Each Relaxed Classic Pechera Barong is made of 30% silk / 70% cotton blend fabric (sourced directly and made in South Korea) with coconut wood buttons. Each barong is handcrafted by Master Lita and the VINTA Gallery team in our atelier in the Philippines. Hand-manipulated machine embroidery is also done in our atelier.
- Spot or fully hand wash with mild soap, do not wring. Dry flat not in direct sun. Dry clean only when absolutely necessary, to avoid drying out the silk (this causes the fabric to break and tear). Steam, and/or iron on low to medium heat (silk setting).
