VINTA Update - November 2020

It’s been a while since our last VINTA Update in May, so thought we’d pop on to let you know what’s been going on on our end.

In sum — lots. From virtual global retreats and international panelist sessions to our exciting NEW Holiday Collection in the works, we’ve been keeping busy. Here’s what’s happening.

Entrepinayship’s Global Business x Wellness Retreat & Summit

VINTA Update - Entrepinayship Virtual Global Retreat

This is an exciting one for us. On November 17-21st, Entrepinayship launches a first-of-its-kind international business and wellness summit online entitled, “Here for Substance: Elevating Conscious Leaders and Entrepreneurs in the Diaspora.” This five-day summit brings together entrepreneurs, thought leaders and changemakers, drawing Filipinas WORLDWIDE to address the impact of the pandemic and to help inspire new economic opportunities for the diaspora.

Virtual attendees spanning from all over North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East will hear from an acclaimed group of Filipina keynote speakers, participate in master classes and panel discussions and learn directly through small group sessions and live one-on-one networking.

We’re so thrilled to be a part of this global event and to participate ourselves — to be honest, it’s long overdue. If only we had something like this before, where we could learn from business owners and entrepreneurs in different stages of their journey and to hear their insights and lessons learned — luckily, we have organizations like Entrepinayship who are helping to elevate Filipinas and motivating each of them to realize her full potential.

To give you an idea of the range of sessions offered, some of the topics include holistic living and business, financial independence and wealth education strategies, how to launch a successful online store, even trauma-informed yoga movement sessions. VINTA founder Caroline Mangosing will be on the November 18th panel called Indigenous Made and Ethical Sourcing, along with Anthill Fabric Gallery founder Joy Anya Lim, psychology professor Dr. Christine Umali Kopp, designer and weaver at Damgo Studio Jessica Ouano and creative director Carol de Leon. Here, they’ll talk about elevating Indigenous and marginalized communities through social businesses that aim to build the capacity of artisan makers and develop a sustainable living, while maintaining ethical practices.

ICYMI: Voices from the Field Panel Discussions — Recordings Available Now

Last month, cultural practitioners from across the Philippines and the diaspora came together to discuss a myriad of topics related to Filipino identity and contemporary cultural practices. It was a huge opportunity to bridge interdisciplinary voices, learn and understand different perspectives and participate in meaningful dialogue to better understand how our varied Filipino experiences have shaped the way we think, move and work. Needless to say, it was an incredible learning experience for all, and we were blown away.

Caroline spoke in the second session of the 3-part series entitled, “Appropriate or Appropriation? In Praxis: Ethics, Aesthetics, and everything in between” (read the full recap here). With an increase in indigenous products in the marketplace and social media callouts about cultural appropriation happening, it was a necessary, relevant and sometimes uncomfortable discussion affecting IP groups, Filipino businesses, culture bearers and consumers alike. Don’t worry if you missed out — you can catch up on all the webinar videos here.

Handloomed Face Masks with Proceeds Going to Pagasa.ph

VINTA Update - Pagasa Typhoon Relief

The Philippines has been facing a destructive typhoon season, with serious storms devastating towns, damaging homes and affecting thousands of families across the country. Grassroots organization Pagasa.ph mobilized quickly to provide hot meals to typhoon evacuees and deliver survival packs to communities that have been hit the hardest. We continue to be incredibly inspired by their fast action on the ground, and we will continue to support Pagasa as best we could with $20 from every Handloomed Face Mask purchase going towards their immediate efforts.

If you’d like to donate directly to Pagasa, head to the link in their Instagram bio @pagasa.ph and learn how you can help!
